researCh rOad triP in chemIstry: an outLook from bachelOr’s to masTer’s

The COPILOT international Summer School, scheduled from June 23rd to June 27th, 2025, at Sorbonne University will offer participants a comprehensive and engaging introduction to selected state-of-the-art research directions in the chemical characterisation of matter. The lectures will cover fields such as chemistry applied to advanced materials and heritage objects, environmental studies, and health research. The focus will be on showcasing the attractiveness of each field while detailing the research activities, including practical aspects such as experiment duration, difficulty, and access to research infrastructures. We aim to provide participating students with a reliable and comprehensive guide for their professional orientation. Contributions from several industrial partners will enrich the range of opportunities.

The summer school is an in-person event, designed primarily for students completing their bachelor's degrees, as well as for master's students eager to explore compelling research directions. With the goal of promoting exchanges among the participating universities from the 4EU+ Alliance, students will team up to conduct a joint literature review survey under the supervision of a teacher. These collaborative activities will be initiated prior to the school's start date through dedicated virtual exchanges and will extend during the school week, in designated time slots. Additional activities will include the visit of selected on-site research platforms as well as a visit to the renowned Mineral Collection of Sorbonne University. An evening welcome cocktail will be offered on Monday, June 23rd, on the top floor of the Zamansky Tower, providing an exceptional panoramic view of Paris. The program will conclude with a half-day tour in Paris.

The student attendees are selected by the participating universities (see contacts) and are financially supported for travel and accommodation costs by their home universities through 4EU+ scholarships. Lunches and coffee breaks will be provided and covered by the organizers.

By actively participating in the school and successfully completing the literature review project, students will be awarded extra ECTS points, in addition to their regular courses.

Only students from the four organizing universities of the 4EU+ European University Alliance are eligible to attend the summer school.

Students interested in participating should contact the respective organizers at their university to inquire about the local selection processes.
